Meet Community Sailing’s Staff

 

Capt’n Dave Cottrell teaching a 4th grade shore school at Rocky Mountain School of Expeditionary Learning. Capt’n Dave is Community Sailing’s instructor trainer who mostly works with Community Sailing’s instructors to insure that they are American Red Cross certified and fun instructors. Capt’n Dave has been teaching sailing since 1975.

Cherry Creek Shore Director, Jack Dusendschon, is a recently certified school teacher.  Jack has been sailing all his life and was the Standley Lake Shore Director in 2000 and 2001, returned to Community Sailing in 2006 as an instructor and will move to the Cherry Creek program as Shore Director in 2007.  Prior to becoming a certified school teacher, Jack spent his winters being a ski instructor at Winter Park .

                  

Standley Lake Shore Director, Jay Price, attends the University of Colorado Engineering School. Jay manages the day to day operation at Standley Lake. He has been teaching sailing for 8 years as a certified instructor with Community Sailing.

 

               

Oliver Bierman-Lytle became a certified sailing instructor in 2006.  Oliver learned to sail with Community Sailing in 2000.  Oliver teaches beginners and intermediate junior sailors at Cherry Creek.  He currently attends Kenyon College in Ohio . 

 

                

Instructor Mark Pauly, 40 something, is a professional photographer when he’s not sailing or teaching at Community Sailing. Mark, a certified instructor has taught sailing with Community Sailing for 4 years and has a passion for multihull Hobi Cat sailboats. Mark became a dad in 2002.

 

             

 

Instructor Philip Ryan, 30 something, is a violin maker when he’s not sailing or teaching at Community Sailing. Philip teaches Advanced Sailing and is Community Sailing’s Junior Race Team coach. He has been sailing since he was 10 years old and now competes on a national level. Philip has been a certified instructor for 7 years.

 

                  

Reeve Dunne started sailing with Community Sailing in 1998 when he was 11 years old and became an assistant instructor when he turned 17.    Reeve became a certified instructor in 2005 and teaches beginning and advanced sailing.  Reeve builds sailboats and races nationally.  Reeve will attend MIT in 2006.

 

                       

 

Steve Frank is the Executive Director of Community Sailing. He is 40 something. Steve started Community Sailing in 1994 when he realized that Denver’s lakes were an underused natural treasure and a great place for kids to spend time during the week when their parents were at work.. He has been a sailor since 1969 and earned his instructor rating in 1993.

 

                           

Travis Miller started sailing with Community Sailing in 1998 as a 10 year old youngster.  Travis spent every hour of every day, he was at the lake, on a sailboat and earned his Advanced Helmsperson rating in 2002.  When Travis turned 17 he earned his instructor rating and was hired as an instructor.  Travis teaches beginning and intermediate sailing.

 

                             

 

Bill Green is an assistant racing coach.  He teaches advanced sailing primarily with Community Sailing’s junior race team. Bill earned his instructor certification in 2004.  He became a dad in 2005.  When he’s not sailing, Bill is a professional photographer and  teaches skiing, during the winter, at the Loveland ski area.

 

                    Joanna Foote learned to sail with Community Sailing and became an assistant instructor with Community Sailing when she turned 16.  Joanna competes on Laser sailboats locally and regionally.  She teaches beginning and intermediate sailing.
